Jesse, The daily limit and the possession limit is the same. 15. I am no expert but when I fished I was in 14 ft and they were on the bottom. I saw a few on the graph at about 9-10 ft but those weren't biting. Good luck to you.

Bear all the resorts in the area are willing to send you in the right direction. If you don't have fish by 630 I would move untell you find them .Work the jigs off the bottom if there there they will show on the vex. They seem to come from the bottom and move up to your jig' COOKIE

Have been interested in Upper Red, but have yet to fish. Looking to try it in a few weeks. Usually fish Winnie. What are the daily and possession limits for crappie on Upper Red? Is it different from the rest of the state? How suspended are the crappie? Will report following the trip.

Cookie, thanks again for the great tips on where to fish. We stayed in that same spot and got our limit, all we used was a red glow jig or a forge minnow with waxies. total that day we caught 34 crappies 3 walleye and about 40 perch. good luck fishing. Jayson

Buddys just got back this weekend and fish the lower half of url. Caught 80 between 12 and 14 inches in 2 hours, sounded like the action really turned on for them, had to move there house to find them though but it looks like they picked a good spot. I'll be going up this weekend and fishing the same house Saturday morning into Sunday. Hope i have the same experience they had. Word from them was anything that glows and crappie minnows. Good Luck

Went to an area that Jason and Gabe caught fish so we will see. Plan on fishing some tomorrow if time allows and have friends coming up so should have a good report thursday. COOKIE

Any glow jig works well,I beleave a #4 is a good size I don't no the names of all the jigs a demon comes to mind. Another jig that has worked well is a ratfinky. I like to use a good size hook as there mouths are big . You can't go wrong if it glows.

Yes, you will need an extension, there is about 30 inches of ice. As far as hooks, they seemed to bite on anything that was a glow jig. I used several colors, blue, yellow, yellow and red, green and even caught one on a old tulibee hook. I tried a plain hook but didn't get a bite on it. I used wax worms for a while and caught two on that but I had to have three worms on the hook. Hope this helps!! Good luck fishing and I hope cookie finds them again!!

Will they need an extention? Have you heard any one better than the other going out of Hudacs verses Hilmans?

Once they get into town any one spot they should stop and get the updates on fishing.

Brian: Good to see that you had a good time. I am the guy that talked to you right after you begin fishing. I had the white Ford pickup and had my wife along. We loaded up our portable and left. As we were driving away I saw you pull out one of those slabs. We had a good time also, we missed many but we ended up catching 17 big slabs. I hope to get up there again within a week or so with my son.

Cookie, Thank you so very much for putting me on the fish. I had the time of my life last weekend. I caught 10 crappies Thurday night starting at 8pm till 10pm. I had two lines going and that was a mistake. I missed more than I caught. Friday was good again but I only got 8. My buddies were content on fishing in the portable and were not mobile. I wouldn't recommend fishing right buy each other. They only caught a handful. LOW was slow, should have never left Red. Crappie minnows with a glow ratfinkie worked best and pink worked well for me. Got a few on waxies. Fishing was best starting at about 4pm though 8-10pm. Cookie please Email me with some information on your sleeper and cabin. I kept a crappie frozen and uncut to show my father and father in law. They didn't believe me when I called and told them. Now they want to come. Hopefully will be coming up in a couple weeks again with others. Good Luck.

Fished Upper Red for the first time. Went out of Hillman's early Friday(1-31-03) morning. Had to drive thru about 1 foot of water for 15 feet up an over a steep bridge to get across a large preasure ridge. What a ride that was! Fished 4 miles out for 13 hrs and caught 23 large crappie between 4 fisherman. Too bad you can't keep walleye's as around 20 were caught with the biggest measuring 23.5 inches. Most were 1 to 2 pound fish. Went out again at 6am Saturday morning in a snow squall and searched for the portables in the dark for about a 1/2 hour. Caught only 1 crappie for 3 hours of fishing. Packed up and went to Lake Of The Woods.

I was thinking of coming up and mountain biking across the lake with some friends and doing some ice fishing on the fishing side. Could someone write me back and tell me how much accumulated snow is on the lake. Is the ice good all the way across? I remember last year that the snow was plowed out to the fish houses, but I don't remember what the snow depth was much beyond that? If someone who has done any biking on the lake reads this I'd appreciate a reply.....I've got carbide studded Nokian Mtn. bike tires and am going to be bikejoring with three Canadian Inuit Sled dogs if I have snow free ice.....thanks, marcus

Cookie I will be passing thru the Red Lake area the night of 3/6 with a few friends. Probably won't get up there until around 9 or 10 that night and would like to fish until the next morning. We would like to rent your large shack for that night if it's open. Please drop me an email and let me know if that's possible. thanks!

The wife and I just came off the lake we had a nice steak dinner. The fishing was extreamly slow we caught 5 crappies missed 3 or 4 . Fisherwomen a extention would be a good idea. We have been going 4 miles out of hillmens but the reports have picked up at all the resorts. Some friends went out about 41/2 miles and did well yesterday. Expect the morning bite to be good, we will see. COOKIE
