After a weekend of motionless rod tips in one of the fabulous McQouids houses, I'm convinced last summer was an aberration and Mille Lacs is once again the Dead Sea. Fatties, shiners, jigging, bobbers, you name we tried it and nothing worked. Great accomodations, plenty of misbehaving, but not a single bite. Mille Lacs fisherpeople beware!

Lardman I have a private house out of Karpen's and have seen the inside of a few of the rentals, not bad as rentals go. Karpen's tries to move the houses around to get them on the fish. the fishing there is the same as most of the lake, perch are slow (none last weekend). the walleye are around - if you read portside's report, walleyes only coming through at night (2am - 5am) true for me the last few weekends as well. slow to dead during the day in the house - go out on the flats if you are looking for eyes during the day.

Rented a shack from dickies the weekend of the 24-25-26. Fished with fathead, shinners and waxies. One perch in the early morning on a fathead, eelpout late on a tip up. Had a camera, didn't see one eye, many perch, just not bitting. Dickies had us about 1/2 mile off of shore in 16 feet of water. Don't think that was deep enough. Did however have to call 911 early Sat am for one of there ice shacks that was up in flames. That was more exciting that the fishing! Hope everyone else has better luck!

Fished out of Twin Pines this weekend. House #29 about 2 miles out. Didn't cath a thing. If your going out of Twin Pines ask for their houses that are 3-4 miles out. No one around us caught anything as well. 1st time I've ever been skunked on Mille Lacs but I don't think it's Twin Pines fault. Better Luck next time!!!!!

Fished out of dickies this past weekend. Fished with a swedish pimple and the head of a fathead. Got one bite around 2 am friday night, I had it on for a bit but it got off. Stayed up till 4 am and fell asleep with the fishing rod in my hand. Saturday, jigged a bit and stared at the tip-ups and rattle wheels. saturday night jigged from 9pm till 3:30 am with not even a hit. Was fishing over rocks moving around in 20-30 feet of water. Can't believe it first time on millelacs and didn't catch a walleye. Thanks MR. DNR for improving the walleye population!

WE RENTED A 16 HOLE SHACK FROM DICKIES ON THE 24,25 FISHED FOR 48 HOURS, HAD NO LUCK WITH THE WALLEYES. WE HAD A CAMERA SAW A FEW PERCH BUT NO EYES. I DON'T THINK DICKIES SHACKS ARE IN A GOOD PLACE. WE FISH ABOUT 1/2 MILE OFF OF SHORE. WOULDN'T RECOMMEND RENTING FROM DICKIES VERY DISAPOINTED WITH THE FISHING, BUT HAD A GREAT TIME ANYWAYS.

Darcy,

Here is our fishing report out of Mcquoids. We fished all day friday with 1 eal pout andf one fish getting of (walleye). Saturday turned out to be a little better. We caught 2 eyes (24,25 inches) and missed four others (alcohol related). We had an underwater camera on saturday, in which we saw hundreds of small perch, with a couple jumbo's mixed in and 2 walleyes. The house itself was excellent. Mcquoids has wonderful homes and do their best to put you on fish. We did not leave the home, in which I know we may have been able to catch a few more fish, if we have. All in all, we had a great time and caught a couple of really nice walleyes.

We are heading to scenic bay resort on the 2nd for a couple of days and are wondering if anyone has had any luck on that part of the lake? If so what depth? and what time? We like to fish with tip-ups for walleye and northern here, but understand we cant use plain treble hooks in Minn. How are you guys dressing up the trebs over there? and are you using shiners, fatheads, suckers or?? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

Fished Eddy's Thursday, 01/23/03. Fished from 8 am to 6 pm. Sloooww! Aqua view showed nothing all day but very small Perch that terror-ized my minnows, but wouldn't bite. Caught a 7.5 lb. Northern Pike. The Nort's seemed to be cruising right under the ice 9 to 10 ft. from the top. Nothing against Eddy's but they just don't have their houses over any structures. Map shows sand and small rocks. Aqua view confirms it. It's like a desert down there. I think Eddy's will be much better this Spring when the Walleye start to spawn and come into the shallows. Not a good hard water spot in my humble opinion. East side still seems to be the better Walleye producer. All you guys asking about Liberty, McQuoids and Hunter's Point...find the rocks and flats, move frequently and you should catch fish. Going up to Chisholm to try out Sturgeon and Side Lakes for Walleye and Crappie. Should be interesting. Has anybody ice fished for Rainbow Trout? I know a lake up north I'd like to try but not sure what to use. <0}))))><

Word on Twin Pines: Went there last year, had a blast. The shack we rented was a 8-man, nice warm shack, and caught quite a few walleyes. I don't think the bite is as hot yet this year from what I've heard, and I haven't seen other resort's shacks, it was worth it though. Going back second weekend in Feb hope it picks up.

Winky,

At first I thought the same thing, however I talked once again with a group of friends that fished Hennepin last night and they caught six walleyes. Out of the six walleyes four were caught between 2:30-4:00 am. The last I checked there was not a full moon last night. The four were caught on rattle reels and shiners. Good luck to all

Steve,

I mentioned to Darcy that we will be fishing the south end of the lake tomorrow. We will be going out of McQuoids in which I will hopefully be able to come back with some good news and Ideas. Our group however is not planning on being very mobile this time, in which I think may hurt our numbers. We will however be having an enormous amount of fun. I will let you know how we did and were they had us placed on the lake. Good luck to all

Darcy,

I will be fishing the south end of Mille lacs this Friday and Saturday. I will certainly report how well we do. I talked with a couple people that fished this past weekend and it appears the best time has been really early. (2:00 am-6:00am). They also mentioned that their set lines with shiners caught all the fish. I will try and give a more detailed report when I return.

Fished out of Myr Mar Friday night (1-17) thru noon Saturday (1-18). Brought home 6 nice jumbo perch and 1 keeper walleye, had to throw back 1-20" walleye. Missed a walleye due to stuck zipper on sleeping bag, and few more got off. All in all I thought the bite was pretty good. Going back up in a couple weeks. Anyone familar with Garrison Sports and how their operation is?

Fished 7 mile flat all day Friday 01/17/2003 from 12 noon to 10:30 p.m. Started out on the west side of the flat in approx. 28-30 feet. Caught and released a 22" Walleye. Slow fishing so I pulled my bait up about 5' off the bottom and caught 2 nice jumbo Perch. Moved to top of the flat about 4:30 for the night bite in 23' of water. NOTHING! Seems they were at least biting in the deeper waters. There was a low front that came in with some snow which could have slowed them up. A friend caught and released a beautiful 25" Walleye at 10:30 just as I was leaving. They had a house on the east edge of the 7 mile flat. Staying on the outside edges of the flat seemed to produce more bites and fish. Fishing Eddy's on Thursday. (Bringing portable just in case!)<o}))))><

Spent a few days sat/sun this week at Eddy's...... Was very disappointed.........A friend from Colorado came along expecting some type of fish but................ There were over 50 houses out from Eddy's and only 2 walleyes were caught those two days in all these houses. We were in 16 foot of water..... Saw many small perch on the bottom, would not bite.... The walleyes showed up sparse at 11:00 PM for 15 minutes as well as around 9 AM each day for a few minutes. Was the worse ice fishing trip I have had in 20 years. The houses are poorly located 200 yards from shore..... on top of no stucture or anything...... Last time we go to Eddy's...... They need to move their houses out to where the fish are if they want future business......
