Headed up to Twin pines next wondering if it is really that bad? Can we actually catch some fish up there or are we better off trying some where else? Thanks

We just came back from Mille Lacs again and did well on the Mud. We found that the walleyes seem to bight well ontop of the flat from 3to8pm. After that its pretty slow all night. We have also been catching a lot of perch in the deep holes that are near the flats. Use pretty much any thing that glows and fat head. Red and yellow combinations have also done well. Try the south west finger of eight mile and the south side of Myr-Mar. Good Luck

To: thepolishguy Thanks for the nice reports on Dickies service. I realize people tend to bitch more than they praise. We are going up today for the weekend, same attitude- going to have a good time and fish will be the bonus.

Scott, i was under the impression that this was a site for us to share experiances. If it has changed to the pros report or something i was not informed. I think if you wait til you are finding and catching fish, the changes will be slow to show because we aren't pros. Most of us are new to Mille Lacs and want a lil advice and would hope the pros like you would share some of your experiances with us. Or might it be, that all you want to do is come in here, see were you need to go, and go catch fish without having to do any of the moving around we do? Please let US know where you found and caught them

I see everbody slamming Dickies Resort. As for me I really like Dickies. I've tried a couple other resorts in the past and Dickies is best by far. I agree the fishing has been slow at all the resorts I've been at including Dickies. But you can't expect too much by just sitting in one spot all weekend. Dickies has always been good to us. Unlike places like Twin Pines resort. Their houses were a complete joke and service was scary. My friends and I had a total blast at Dickies last year. We only caught one fish out of all 3 days we were there, but we partied like rock stars!! A total drunkfest. The mentality you have to have when rented these ice houses is you're there to have fun and catching fish is secondary. If your serious about fishing buy a portable shack and stay mobile. We'll be back up there the weekend of Jan. 25th, 26th. Really looking forward to it.

Hi To All

I was hoping for little advise I've been ice fishing for years only but only for pan fish and pike. Well here is the problem friends are starting to get sick of me out fishing them when it comes to crappie's so they thougt we should go to the sea to catch walleyes We are staying at scenic bay and fishing out of our own house. Any help would be great for this virgin walleye guy would be great.(location, bait, lure, and what ever else you can send my way. I would just love to out fish these guys so I don't have to hear them pick on me all week

Thanks and have a great day

Wazman, looked like they had houses out to the mouth of the bay also, possibly farther but didn't drive out to check. Last year they put us about 1/2 mile out of the bay and we caught keeper northern and released walleye. Northern were smaller, 2-3 pound range. It was too cold to venture out to try other spots so the fish had to come to me. Good luck if your're going up.

To Joe from Andrews: Most fish houses are pretty warm, have not rented from Eddy's before though. Others I have been in I've sometimes opened the door to bleed some heat off. I recommend a sleeping bag to sleep on top of since a lot of houses have a foam pad instead of matress. Just bring your tackle, a skimmer to keep the holes clean, and your bait bucket. I use a 'quiet bubbles' aerator (about $15) to keep the bait alive. Bought mine at Fleet Farm. It runs nonstop on 2 D-cell batteries for several days easy and is much quieter than the cheaper ones. Also, bring along some long 'fireplace' matches or one of the grill lighters since they are very handy for lighting stoves and propane lights. Hope you have good luck. Cold front killed my fishing trip.

Why was my complaint about a resort "snipped" but nobody else's has? I heard a report of a huge musky caught on West Battle, can anyone confirm that? Caught some nice crappies on Holland lake in Eagan, anyone ever trout fished there? I caught some eater 'eyes 2 weeks ago on West battle in 32 feet, has anyone else been fishing that deep? Thanks for any help.

Was in Isle Bay Monday/Tuesday this week. Fishing was very slow, flasher would show fish but they kept their mouths clamped shut. Another rental close to me had a camera and was seeing fish but not hooking them. Seen some negative comments about resorts which I can attest to also but went out of Scenic Bay this year again and have had very good service. Booked again for next month. Was directly in the bay this time but others farther out were not having any better luck. The only action was on sucker minnows for northern. Small perch were 'somewhat' interested in jig/minnow jig/waxie combos but mostly had non-aggressive taps. Hopefully will have better results next month. Also, fyi, the ice is fine on that end of the lake. Cold front may have killed fishing but made more ice.

A group of us will be renting from McQuoids on the 24th,25th and 26th. I was curious as to the depth and location they had your house. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with walleye slayer - it's for fun - none of the resort owners are going to tell you that you will come home with fish. it's SLOW this year - work for them - not just sit around waiting for them to come in. i have a house on the same side as Mac's and Dickie's - don't know the operations, but feel that at Karpen's where my house is that they do there best to move their houses to wheere the fish may be. have been up ever weekend sence chirstmas and our luck has been varied - 3 small "throw back" perch and one 18" throw back walleye last weekend & i work morning and night for my fish.

PS - love to see what that $200 house would look like - comfortable i'm sure!

fishing at dickies sucks.they jacked us for a hundrend dallors and only put us out 3 qauter of a mile out.it was only 14 feet deep in 24 hours we only caught 3 fish and they were smaller then my goldfish.Dont waste your time with dickies its like throwing your money down the icehole.

Logan,

The house we were in from McQuoids was very nice. We rented a 10 holler so there was plenty of room. They have a car type stereo, a TV, nice table/chairs and shelves setup. Was also very warm even for a southern fisherman new to the term "below". Overall I give the fish house an A+.

Hope that helps,

YES...YES...YES The bite on Mille Lacs is slow but, there is a bite. I fish out of the Northern end (Red Door Resort). last two weekends we caught about 8 Walleye and a couple small perch. The new slot on the lake will make it difficult to catch keepers but, the biggies are out there. The eyes seem to be hugging the bottom as most aren't even showing on the locater and have to be tempted into a bite. Work a swedish pimple right on the bottom with a half minnow at first. They have hit everything from medium shiners to crappie minnows. If you are headed to the Red Door, expect a most plessent personal experiance from management if nothing else. Nice people and nice houses. See you all on the lake. Good luck and remember....it's all in fun

Louisiana Cat-fisherman here again. Experienced hard water fishin' for the first time last weekend. We went out of McQuoids on the south side. We caught 3 perch, 2 darters (little guys), and an Eelpout. We fished hard for 48 hours keeping live fatheads down on 6lb test the entire time. Got the perch and darters on larva (small fish so we used small hooks w/ euro larva) and the Eelpout on a Swedish Pimple glow tipped with a Fathead head. Walked around to bunch of houses asking for reports, and it sounds like we did better then most.

Good luck up there, I will be glad to slay the Crappie on the wet water this weekend.

But quess what all we caught was a PERCH! heater went out, had to flag down "so called care taker" to move us to the excutive suite, wasnt very excutive. OUR LUCK DIDNT CHANGE. dont waste time or money.
