Paul, nice Perch have been biting in front of Stocky's Harbor in 25 feet of water on the gravel. Move around to find the active schools. Bobbers and minnows on jigs have been best.

Good Luck

Coney King looking forward to it, Should I invite a few extras? Kellie and I got some fish last night, the standard awnser up here is a few? We did well we landed 14 crappies between 6:30pm to 8:00pm and missed a few? Had a great dinner halibut on the broiler THANKS MITCH. OUTSTANDING. Enjoyed 2 classic movies think I will add the VCR and a colored TV to the the ammenities, its a nice touch I think. We got are fish on blue glow jigs, they were attacking the lure,I also had a white and orange glow jig on the rattle wheel and missed numerous fish on it , turns out the barb was dull? Must of been all those walleye we caught last weekend. We are fishing hard bottom in 11' 4" they moved in then left at dinner time, we caught a couple stragglers after that. Not a few a couple. Randy is using the house tonight with his friend Wade. Need to rent the house after the 15th so it is always occupied any one interest you can email me cookie16@paulbunyan.net. It is being used the 21rst and 22nd. Will do my best to keep it on fish. Will see how Pete's houses did later, he has some VIP coming in and wants them to get fish. COOKIE

Heading to Mille Lacs on Friday afternoon to take advantage of the warmer weather. We are looking to find some jumbo perch action but don't know where to start. We have never fished for jumbo perch on Mille Lacs. We are familiar with the rocky reef area on the South side, but we don't know if there are many perch to be had there. Can anyone give up some information on the best place to find them? THANKS!!!!

Got our asses kicked this weekend by the cold, we figured it to be about 60 below with wind. We did manage to grill outside. We went about 2 miles out from Mortz, we had 4 guys there from Sat. afternoon to Mon. till 4 and only got 2 crappies. Threw back a bunch of nice walleye. Very Very slow, and we saw what we thought were crappies on the Vex one night but would not bite. Couldn't even move bacause it was too damn cold. Should be great at the end of this week.

JR/ Bobber and crankbaits can be hot in May. Stick to the shallow rock piles and shorelines.

My dad, myself and a friend went up Sat. 3/8 and fished all day untill 7:30 pm and caught TONS of small perch and a total of two crappies, crappies caught around 6pm. Nice size. The weather was about 10 below zero and windy, not the best time to go out. Extension needed for about an inch of extra ice than without one. Good luck if you head out!

I was up on Lake Saganaga 6-9 MAR. We stayed at the Chippewa Inn on the Canada side. We caught 5 Lake Trout. That was our limit. I caught 4 myself, had to spread the catch, my licence only allowed me to keep one. 40 feet of water up by the palasiades north of Brown Island. I may make another trip this year, but will stay along the Gunflint Trail at a lodge with running water, and a warm toilet seat. There was 30" of ice and 12" plus of snow, it was great You need a remote boarder crossing permit to cross into Canada, and a non-resident Fishing licence.

Most all the bars are giving up some nice Perch limits. 2 of the best bars are Moses inline with our houses and the north-south section of center. Best depth is 30' to 32'. The last few days we did have reports of Perch coming out of 20' of water. The gold Perch forage minnow jig, firetiger & glow rainbow fire-eye minnow, perch color glow devils & the angel eye jrs are the best baits. Tip them with a * a fathead minnow and fish in 32' to 35' of water. Move, move, move tell you get on the Perch. There is several ice heaves on the lake now and do not cross them. They are solid one time and open up the next time you try to cross. Check at any resorts where the heaves are and how to go around them. We now have 38"+ of ice and 2" of snow cover.

To all fishermen, If you spend 1/2 hour reading the past reports on here you should have all the knowledge you need to find those elusive crappies. Come and enjoy the lake , give every one plenty of room, Please bring your garbage home. Who ever left the 12 pack of empty bud cans I picked them up for you. Where do you think this garbage goes?I will tell you it ends up on the bottom of the lake or on shore so please take it home with you. This lake is pristine lets all keep it that way. THANKS COOKIE

Fished march 7/8/9. Went out of Border view Lodge. Weather was cold -27 sat. -13 sunday thats the temp not the wind chill. Anyhow went 14 miles out and fished in 36 ft of water. Primarily fishing 3 - 5 ft off the bottom. We caught about 20 fish a day keeping about 10 putting back the rest. The zippy lure and the helicopter jig yielded the biggest fish which topped out at 22 inches. Minnows whole of just the heads seemed to work well. Jigging out produced the dead sticks.

Today is moving day, Kellie and I went out last night and found a new spot . Maybe I should be a guide as i'm not any good at catching them. Kellie caught 8 with a blue gemneye #4? I caught 2, 3 feet from her hole, her vex was lit up like a x-mas tree while mine was blank, does not make any sense. I switched lures 4 times and had 2 lines down. I finaley got 2 on a small blue glow jig. So blue was the colar last night. Tonight we will be going out to the sleeper and trying another new area,we will be watching a couple of movies Bonnie and Clyde and American Graffiti. If your not getting fish you need to move, find a open area next to no one as people seem to get a little upset when you set up near them. Drill extra holes when your setting up straight north, west east or south of your spot.If your not getting them after dark start checking the other holes and you will find fish ,if your only getting 1 or 2 they could be 10 feet away ,again it does not make any sense. I have tried to figure it out as I 'am on the lake every day. Seems they just move around looking for food. There is a million theories, Hudecs gets hot this time of year. Why? not sure ? Try and find atleast 11 or 12 feet of water. Hilmans road goes way out and swings ahead of Hudecs are they cutting the fish off. Are the fish following the north shore? Again don't know. Why is west wind doing so well way out? Did the fish turn and come east. We tried the cribbs and it was no good, Will next week be good on the cribbs? I might try them again later this month. There is no magic spots a spot that is hot one day is cold the next, they just move around looking for food and trying not to be eaten buy a 20lb pike. When you do tie into them it will be one of the best fishing trips of your life for crappies. World class and some of the best eating fish in Minnesota . This weekend will be nuts as they are predicting warm weather. I have another full house starting friday through sunday need more fishermen during the week so I can be a better host. Gotta go have a plow that needs to be worked on. Good luck to all and be carefull this weekend COOKIE

Talked to Ole he got 8 fish and headed home, says he will be back at the end of the week. He was fishing 3.7 miles out. Dave,Jim and Lance left Petes befor dark to relax in my sleeper they got zero fish. I told them they had little chance of catching fish out of there, they didn't mind they just wanted to relax in total comfort. The problem with my house is its like fishing in your living room, with a kitchen and biffy. You get spoiled awfull quick. They had buffalo steaks for dinner and venison for braekfest. Dave is a guide in Park Rapids so catches plenty of fish he had some great picture of bass, pike and muskies. Steave is out there tonight with some buddies and will see how they do tonight as the wife and I are going to try the small house that I moved today. Kinda of primative but it serves it purpose. Fished out of Zippel bay resort on 3-7,8,9 and stayed in a sleeper in 27 feet of water. Caught 130 to 150 walleye/sauger, 3 northers, and one perch. Kept 13 walleye/sauger. The biggest walleye was a fat 25" (6.5 lbs.) and the biggest northern was 36" (11.5 lbs). Marked alot more fish, but didn't seem like they were really all that active. We did not see any suspended fish like many of the reports have talked about. The bigger fish came in streaks. About half of the keepers hit watermelon colered "varmit" jigging spoons. Shiners outfished fatheads 3 to 1. The extreme cold weather (-25 below)and the high wind kept us from moving around much. I think that the warmer weather will really help the fishing this coming weekend. The ice was 50" thick.

Perch jr. Hudecs will put you on fish, they stack up like cord would on this side of the lake. Bring portables so if there not biting you can move around a little, bring extension, drill extra holes in a line. After dark fish each one for 5 minutes untell you find fish, then set up portables right on that spot, the auger will not scare them if there feeding. Good luck COOKIE PS. let us know how you do.
