Thanks for the tip goatpecker! Us Bemidji boys are finally going to head up there as the bite seems to have picked up, unless the wind picks up. We are going to really spread out and hope that one us of gets into them. I'll give you a report after that.

Cookie,

I appreciate your information. I'm going fishing with some friends Friday. Are you still going out of Hillmen's? Could you help me out with any special spots? How far out, to the left or right?

Thanks! Mojo

Three of us were out on the 24th and the 25th. We limited both days with 10 to 12 inch perch. The fishing was great along with the hospitality of the people there. Gold #8 buckshot rattle spoons tipped with a fathead minnow did the job. 32 to 34 feet of water fishing on the bottom.

What a week and weekend, COLD, wind and now some snow. The Perch don't seem to mind a bit. Seeing some nice 10" to 13" limits coming in early in the day. Just ask Rick Gruebele from Cambridge, Mn he even had a fish fry for me. Walleyes have slowed down some. Perch is still going on most all bars just find the 32' to 35' by mid morning. Back side of Long bar, both sides of Moses bar, Sugar bar, Snag Hole bar and Center are great. Most of the Walleye is coming off Sugar bar and the back side of Long bar. Forage minnow jig #6(HOT can't keep them in stock), Fire-eye-minnow, buckshot rattlen spoon and glow devil are the bait to use. Tip them with a 1/2 a fathead for best results. Watch out for cracks opening up with the warm weather we are having now.

I have been fishing cass for the last 3 yrs.I hve been up on the 3 week of May,the last week of May,the 1 week of June and this yr I will be there the 2 week of June.I noticed a lot of posts on this site asking for tips on how to catch walleye on cass.I have been trolling a 3-5 inch original rapala on the flats of both Cass and Andrusia and had great luck. But it seems to be MUCH better at night. The locals sit in front of the bridge that crosses the outlet from andrusia to cass right at dark and do well too. They appear to be jigging. But I wait until they are done and then troll the flats on andrusia. For anyone who lives in Minn.I just want to say how much I have enjoyed fishing in your state.I have met some very nice people and the locals are (much to my surprise) quite willing to give a fishing tip here and there!

I have never rented a fish house before. I am planning on going up during the middle of the week. I will be taking my daughter, she is 4 and this is her first time fishing. I'm looking for a rental house that is the type where we can sit on a carpeted floor, play a board game and listen for the rattle reel. Maybe even take a nap on the bunk. Can anyone give me info on where would be the best place to find this type of rental? Thanks.

The fishing is great!!!! I came up with a group of 6 guys and we filled out in 3 days. We had to work for the them the last day but that was due to a cold front. We found most of our fish in 25' of water or deeper. We were also plesantly suprised to see that Rapids Tackle was back in business! They are locate on Hwy 2 just as you are leaving Grand Rapids. After talking with Don we found that Ben had bought their building and kicked them out. After we heard that we will never go back to Ben again. Ben had told us last year that Don had retired. Don asked us to pass out his phone number. He said that he would be happy to give out up to date information. His phone number is 218-326-0398. Good luck fishing everyone.

Went out of Hudecs on 1/26 - caught 15 crappies missed twice that many. Largest was 14 3/4 in. and the smallest was a mere 13 in. Unbelievable. Only one wally. We found if you weren't using glow you weren't catching anything. Also, they were very finicky, so the smaller the better. Fishing right off the bottom. Set lines didn't do much - jigging was where it was at.

Fished the flats 1/24 out of Warroad and had minimal luck - mostly goatpecker sauger caught in about 27 ft. Red seemed to be the color. Moved on 1/25 and fished out of Adrienes (11 mile) and caught more smaller fish in deeper water - about 35 ft. Around 3:00 on 1/25 tried fishing out of Sportsmans on the river and caught a few bigger fish, but nothing note worthy. Word was the reefs were the place to be.

The wife and I did not catch any walleyes so I hope they dont push the crappies away.I have pool tonight so will be talking to some guys that work at Hudecs so will see how there doing The fishing seems to be picking up at all the resorts. First message is for cookie-2 responsible adults and 3 well-behaved kids are looking for a shack for saturday, march 1st. Please e-mail me. Keep up the postings- they are extremely enjoyable. Second is for everyone. Youth Hockey and family get all my time til mid Feb. The dozen or so times that I have been up there late in the year this trick has always worked. If in a group split up. Drill extra holes in the immediate area you are fishing. If you start at noon fish the spot for an hour or so. If you dont get any fish MOVE. You need to get at least a couple strays before dark. when you find that spot they seem to move in at dark. The extra holes are for your buddies to join in. Stay away from the crowd and have fun.

After a weekend of motionless rod tips in one of the fabulous McQouids houses, I'm convinced last summer was an aberration and Mille Lacs is once again the Dead Sea. Fatties, shiners, jigging, bobbers, you name we tried it and nothing worked. Great accomodations, plenty of misbehaving, but not a single bite. Mille Lacs fisherpeople beware!

Lardman I have a private house out of Karpen's and have seen the inside of a few of the rentals, not bad as rentals go. Karpen's tries to move the houses around to get them on the fish. the fishing there is the same as most of the lake, perch are slow (none last weekend). the walleye are around - if you read portside's report, walleyes only coming through at night (2am - 5am) true for me the last few weekends as well. slow to dead during the day in the house - go out on the flats if you are looking for eyes during the day.

Rented a shack from dickies the weekend of the 24-25-26. Fished with fathead, shinners and waxies. One perch in the early morning on a fathead, eelpout late on a tip up. Had a camera, didn't see one eye, many perch, just not bitting. Dickies had us about 1/2 mile off of shore in 16 feet of water. Don't think that was deep enough. Did however have to call 911 early Sat am for one of there ice shacks that was up in flames. That was more exciting that the fishing! Hope everyone else has better luck!

I have a question about what depth everyone has been setting there lures off the bottom. Alot of people say from 3-6 inches off the bottom but we had pretty good luck the last couple of times when our lures were 1-3ft off the bottom. If u are consistantly catching small fish move your lure up and down to find the keepers!

Fished out of Twin Pines this weekend. House #29 about 2 miles out. Didn't cath a thing. If your going out of Twin Pines ask for their houses that are 3-4 miles out. No one around us caught anything as well. 1st time I've ever been skunked on Mille Lacs but I don't think it's Twin Pines fault. Better Luck next time!!!!!

I hate to say this but the wife and I cleaned up.We caught over 30 crappies ,we kept 30, then on the way in helped two guys that were stuck and they caught 1 so we gave them 15 ,they were from Sauck rapids. They were fishing less then 100 yards to the north of us. 3 wax worms on a small glow jig did real well, but it had to have atleast 3 on it. I also did well on angel eye jr white and green with minnows .The wife struggled with a blue glow jig which was hot before. COOKIE

I'm planning to take my kids out in the portable this weekend. Where can I get them on some panfish action somewhere near the south metro? Thanks!

Fished out of dickies this past weekend. Fished with a swedish pimple and the head of a fathead. Got one bite around 2 am friday night, I had it on for a bit but it got off. Stayed up till 4 am and fell asleep with the fishing rod in my hand. Saturday, jigged a bit and stared at the tip-ups and rattle wheels. saturday night jigged from 9pm till 3:30 am with not even a hit. Was fishing over rocks moving around in 20-30 feet of water. Can't believe it first time on millelacs and didn't catch a walleye. Thanks MR. DNR for improving the walleye population!
