The cold weather finally arrived. Yesterday there was ice as far as you could see from our shoreline. It looked like there may be some ice piling up way out where theres still open water. Gotta like that, tough on the equipment but can be some great fishing in those areas. The ice loooked real nice in front of Hudecs old place as the wind was not blowing into there shoreline.
The greek will be coming up tonight with Evvert he is a young boy that the greek is a mentor to. Everrt wants to learn how to trap so Ole will also be coming up to give them some traps and pointers. Ole bought a muzzleloader license so will be doing some hunting before he heads south to hunt in missouri.
The greek will also be helping me with any last minute things we need to do befor we pull the sleepers out of the woods.
I'm hoping to be able to have the houses out in front of our place just after christmas to start the season. Two years ago we had some great action in 6 feet of water. Last year it was not as good but maybe we did not fish it hard enough as we headed out further right away.

Just south of URL, in the Blackduck area, Monday there was ice starting to form on Blackduck Lake and several of the smaller lakes in the area had a thin coat of ice covering 50-85% of the lake (depending on which lake it was). Thursday, Blackduck was wide open and water was rollin into the shore at the access on the eastside. Today, 24 hours later, Blackduck lake is about 90% frozen over..what a difference a day can make. Temps in the low teens, but w/chill is hovering at 0. Extended is showing temps in the teens and lows single digits (with a couple negatives thrown in) and only light winds tomorrow..so bring it on!

We seem to be making ice pretty quick now. Tyler was one of the first fishing but hank may of beat him to the punch. Hank sadi he caught a few two big to keep while tyler said he got two keepers. Buddy Hillmen has started to stake his road. It looks like he has gone out 1 to 200 feet.
The greek and everrt did some scoutting for there trapping line. They did not see many tracks where they were and are going to check some other areas today.
We all had dinner last night with Ole." lamb chops and freash scallops from alaska" He gave them some tips on trapping. For only being 11 Everett knows a ton about trapping and I think he surprised Ole with some of his knowledge.
Ole is a true trophy hunter, Every year while hunting he always takes a shot to make sure his gun is still sighted in. This year when he went to take a practice shot his gun did not fire?
He ended up borrowing Bob's rifle as he said he will never trust that gun again. He picked up his new rifle for next year on his way up this weekend. He bought a lighter gun that only holds one shot.he sadi he has never shot at the same deer twice and wished he would of bought this gun years ago.

Hey Cookie - thanks for all the updates about the ice on Red. I had planned to head up on the 15th for two nights in a sleeper at Westwinds. It's great to know whats up with the ice conditions. Sounds like the ice will not be ready in 9 days to get a sleep out there. Bummer.

Keep the reports coming, there are many of us that really look forward to them!!

If we get a inch a day there could be a chance of a sleeper on the ice. You would have to check with westwind as the days get closer.
The greek and I fished one hour today. We marked a couple of fish but could not intice them to bite. Tomorrow we will try just a little deeper. I meausered 5 inches where we augered are holes.

I am expecting that Red is looking better with this cold snap and that we will be able to fish from a house soon. Maybe the snow will stay south and the ice will continue to build!!!

Come on ice!!
