| The pike seem to being roaming in the deep. I would go out atleast 3 1/2 miles. Fishing near the rough ice may increase your odds a little. Use a smelt harrness to keep it verticle. keep the smelt 2 feet off the bottom. Good luck and let us know how you do |

| I picked up some sucker minnows at a bait shop on the way up to Red. I believe it was north of leech. I think it was called froggies. They were big pike suckers between 5 and 7 inches. I actually had the best luck using a big white walleye jig through the suckers mouth, because the big walleye jig was not heavy enough to bring the sucker down it had a lot of movement. With the camera we would drop the sucker down and either jig it or use a muskie bobber. The pick would turn and just go nuts on the sucker. We out over four miles and hit four in two days ranging from 32" to about 40". Cookie gave me the idea of two feet of the bottom, on the camera the pike were right on the bottom and fed up so cookie was right on. |
