Alright, let's do this "Grumpy Old Men" bait shop style. Anything related to the fishing in the metro area. That means Ice reports, fishing reports, bait shop preferences, and so on. Only restriction, let's keep it to the metro area.
Thanks all and have a safe and fun winter!

I was on Tonka's North Arm Bay yesterday and we were sitting on 7 inches of ice. WOW!
Took a look on Tonka's Black Lake at the end of the night and looked into some of the holes poeple had used over the weekend. It appeared they were sitting on 3 to 5 inches of ice. |

| That's what I like to hear! Does the snow seem to have much effect? Up around Little Canada/Roseville, it seemed like the snow came BEFORE the lakes froze completely, so I don't think it's causing many problems here. |

|
|
| Where Tonka was Frozen the snow all blew off so if there is any snow it is only in patches and the patches are just enough coating for traction. The big water was not frozen until after the first snow so that was not impacted as well. The snow we got on Monday appears to have blown around as well. Good thing for all lakes is that the snow was very fine and light so I think we are in for nice dark/strong ice. |

| I am curious to see how this blizzard affects the ice. I haven't had a chance to get out yet, but it sounds like there is enough ice already that won't make too much difference. Keep us all posted if you get out afterwards! |

St.Croix, Bayport
12 inches of solid ice, 1-2 inche of crusty ice on top...
Being a river with moving water...never sure where thin ice lurks. |

| So, I'm looking for a place to fish tomorrow; leaning towards Owasso (Roseville area). Is anyone familiar with the lake? I love a few tips. Thanks! |

As close as I live to Owasso...I've never been on it. Hmmm...I guess I should at least give it a try for some eyes sometimes. Gotta go look at the DNR lake map now. |

| Was on Bush Lake (Bloomington) Yesterday. About a half dozen portables around with 4 wheel traffic as well. A good 20" of ice as it took the whole length of my hand auger to punch through. Tried 10 fow and in 16 fow. First drop of the crappie minnow hook into a 20+ inch pike. He tasted great for lunch!! Other than that, nada. Not even a frigging sniff. Aw well, the new Mr Heater worked great at keeping the portable nice and toasty. |

| Cross Lake, Pine City...13 inches of ice...moderate heavy snow cover...harden slush and some slush under the packed snow. |
