OK guys, I have only stayed at a couple resorts in my 30 yrs at Cass and have been at the same one for about 15 straight years now, but next year I expect to have a diff crowd/family group than just my fishing buddies so I need to change my priorities for our resort to suit all needs the best we can. During our week in June, if it rains, I plan to do some scouting and would appreciate hearing both the pros and cons of other resorts to check out while I am up there.

I know resorts fill up fast so I am trying to plan ahead.
Let me hear your experiences and that should help me decide which ones to visit so I can start planning our 2009 trip.

In my report from last June I mentioned how my sisters and nephew and I stopped over to meet Clark and he showed us around (and even gave me a free coffee being the great guy he is). And so I already know how booked up he gets because the 'Shoe is so popular so I'm asking about other resorts to visit in case I can't get into a good resort like his with our group next year.

But I am glad you took this opportunity to jab at each other....keeps this board the way it always has been - tongue in cheek ribbing at its best.

Cant Jab to hard being I have to see his smiling face In three weeks or lack of smiling hence the name Grouch. Actual cant wait for the season to start. The resort is a little lonely with just Clark and I.

Horseshoe Resort is my number 1 pick. Great cabins, outstanding boat dockage, and you can't find better owners/operators. Wishbone Resort right next to Horseshoe is also top notch. It would be my pick if you need an American Plan.

Hey geno. You know my shtick on the Pike Hole. I've extolled the virtues of that place a bunch of times (on many sites). So you know my thoughts for that joint. But I figure you're not quite ready to pull off your Cass Lake haunts and come over to the dark side! (Pug Hole and Kitchi!) Twisted Evil

But drop me a line if you want to know more though.

Mark, you know I love fishing Pikes. If the Hole wasn't so dang far away, we would be there. Traveling to Pikes' every day from the hole, with the price of gas, I would go broke.

Well, I will give you my two cents worth, and obviously this is my opinion, not anyone elses or the forum.

I would highly recommend two places: #1. Horseshoe, and #2. Stoney Point.

I will never again recommend to anyone, Cass Lake Lodge. If you need particulars, I can explain privately.

I do agree, sleep close to where you fish. Especially this year when it will probably cost us $5 plus a gallon for marine gas.

I will keep that in mind Col. That is really what I am interested in - which ones to not waste my time visiting.

MuskyMark,
PHole was the last place I stayed darn near 15 yrs ago. I love the loc ('cept for being away from PikeBay) but I have found enough perch spots in the Turtle River and in Kitchi that that would not deter me. The PROBLEM for me is that darn bar - I'd never get any fishing in!

Your right gene, that is one nice bar. That was one of the things I really liked about Tom's. After a long day of fishing, after dinner, we would hit the bar. There always was a bunch of fishermen there to swap stories. Boy, we certainly had some good time there. Funny thing, other than Stoney Pointe, there are no real nice resorts on the south end of Cass. Unless I am missing some.

Yea Ron, I also like Stoney's bar. Has a real bar feel. Hopefully my crew will agree to change, and hopefully they will have an opening. They only have a very limited number of cabins. I wonder if any of the people that have their trailers parked there rent them out.
